The team from Florida Drone Supply recently embarked on a journey from the sunny beaches of southwest Florida to the heartland of America, Kansas City, Missouri to host a drone summit that showcased the latest UAS technology. This event was a unique opportunity for local and surrounding public safety and law enforcement agencies to witness firsthand the incredible capabilities of cutting-edge drone technology in their line of work.
Florida Drone Supply is no stranger to traveling across the United States for drone training, but this was our first attempt of hosting our own show and leading it from start to finish. The goal was to bring to the latest drone technology to the hands of those who serve and protect our communities every day.
The event took place at the Kansas City Police Training Headquarters which provided the perfect environment for both instructional and hands on demos with their spacious and versatile environment. The FDS team brought drones that range in size, functionality, and prices. We brought drones as small as a DJI Mini and as large as a heavy-lift Inspired Flight IF1200A.
To make this event a true success, Florida Drone Supply worked closely with local law enforcement agencies, public safety organizations, and city officials. The cross-agency cooperation was a great sight to see and this event brought together agencies from as far away as 150 miles from the demo location. At the height of the event, there were 85+ officers from 17 different police, sheriff, and fire departments.
One of the unique aspects of this demonstration was the opportunity for attendees to get hands-on with the drones. People from various agencies had the chance to pilot drones and experience the incredible ease of use and versatility that these machines offer. The interactive nature of the event allowed attendees to gain a deeper understanding of how drones can integrate into their everyday operations.
With the use of the vast space that the training facility provided, we were able to fly multiple drones at the same time as well as train and highlight capabilities of using drones indoors for house clearing, suspect searching, and inside situational awareness inside of the shoot-house that is on-site.
Aside from the drone demos, Florida Drone Supply covered, in depth, the ever changing laws and regulations when it comes to airspace, COA's, remote ID, and Blue List UAS options.
Having a large group of people for a demo can be difficult due to the smaller screens of the drone remotes, but that is where Vandoit Commerical Vans saved the day. They brought out 4 of their tactical command vehicles equipped with more TV's than your local Best Buy. The FDS team was able to pull the feeds out of the remotes and let the attendees to sit back and watch the large screens and get a sense of all that is possible with the amazing technology that we brought.
